| Happy Birthday Christie Leung Yamada Gilmore!!!! (yes this is a day late, but i'm hoping to redeem myself with my package that i am quite sure arrived on time)
(sadly i don't really have any recent pictures of us TOGETHER. Christie is a good friend. Each time i go home, we have a tradition where we go out for starbucks the morning before i leave... at, like, 6 am!)
I've decided to break my xanga silence and join back into the bogging foray with a post for Christie!
(Micah Bears is also my new bff! He and Christie take me out for treats too)
Although we are no longer roomies, per se, i feel like this year God has really grown us closer in a bunch of cool and neat ways. It's weird to think that my first 3 years in Japan, we didn't get to talk as much, but this time around, we video skype about once a week- something i definitely need to survive this time around! In case you didn't know, I used to be an English teacher in Hyogo prefecture- near both Kobe and Osaka. I decided I was done with JET, and was planning on going home when i heard about this job opportunity. I started feeling really excited about it, interviewed, and then got the job! I'm working at a Christian publishing company in Saitama, about an hour outside of Tokyo. It's pretty neat to be a part of the whole process of printing, binding, and sending Bibles out. It has definitely been a challenge in a ton of ways, hence the SUPER thankfulness to my former roomie! (right before heading out to Mexical sometime during college)
One thing that I love about our friendship is that it has really grown with us over time. We aren't the same girls we were when we first met in jr. high. We aren't the same girls we were when we were friends in high school. And we've also grown since the time we were roommates in college (which was 4 years ago!!! Where does the time go?). I know some friends sometimes grow apart as they grow and mature, but despite being in different countries, TOTALLY different time zones, and totally different stages in life (she is married, i am not!), it's amazing to me that we are still close. I'm so thankful that God has blessed me with Christie and her friendship - i seriously don't know what i'd do without her!
(a picture of Mel, Christie, Kris, and I what feels like a LOOOONG time ago)
And while i'm unsure of who reads our xanga, i hope that YOU, reader, also have forever friends who you can worship with, talk with, fellowship with, cry with, laugh with... you get the idea. They definitely come out of the grace of God!
(whether or not you have friends, the WXYZ pose, as show here by Thomas, Vanessa, myself, and Christie, is always a good thing to do in pictures.) Happy Birthday Christie!
